Balanced reaction between Al and FeO is

2Al + 3FeO ⇆ Al₂O₃ + 3Fe

To produce 20 g of Iron, mass of FeO required is-

  • Molecular mass of FeO = 71.84 g/mol
  • weight of 3 moles of FeO = 71.84 × 3 = 215.52 g
  • Weight of 3 moles of Fe is = 55.8×3= 167.4 g
  • 167.4 g Fe can be produced from 215.52 g FeO
  • 1 g Fe ⇒ 215.52/ 167.4 g of FeO
  • 20 g of Fe can be produced from ⇒ 251.52 × 20 ÷ 167.4 = 30.05 g of FeO

Hence 30.05 g of FeO required to produce 20 g of Fe.

2Al + Fe₂O₃ ⇆ Al₂O₃ + 2Fe

  • 1 mole of Fe₂O₃ produces 2 moles of Fe.
  • In other words, 2 moles of Fe = 1 mole of Fe₂O₃

                             ⇒ 2 * 56 g of Fe = 159.69 g of Fe₂O₃

  • Therefore, 20 g of Fe = 159.69 * 20/(2 * 56) g of Fe₂O₃ = 28.5  g of Fe.
