here is increase in the oxidation number.and also H atom(electo+ve) is removed . So citric acid is oxidised in this reaction. ... The reaction with KMnO4 will be a brute force oxidation, in acidic solution resulting CO2, H2O, and Mn+2 ion . Balance the equation for homework.
