Answer:

Kannada (/ˈkɑːnədə, ˈkæn-/;[7][8] ಕನ್ನಡ, [ˈkɐnnɐɖaː]), also known as Kanarese,[9] is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by people of Karnataka in southwestern India, and by significant linguistic minorities in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala and abroad. The language has roughly 44 million native speakers,[10] who are called Kannadigas. Kannada is also spoken as a second and third language by over 12.9 million non-Kannada speakers in Karnataka, which adds up to 56 million speakers.[11] It is one of the scheduled languages of India and the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka.[12]. Kannada has the distinction of being court language of some of the most powerful emperors of South and Central India such as Chalukya dynasty, Rashtrakuta dynasty, Vijayanagara Empire, Hoysala Empire.
