The 12th President of India, Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, was born on October 15, 1931 at Dhanushkothi in the temple town Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. He was born in the poor family of a boatmaker. He has worked under a legendary space scientist, Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (father of India’s space programme). He later became the project director in 1969 of India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle, SLV-III.
