According to Gibson (2004), the issue of environmental justice contradicts the traditional definition of environmentalism, where environment was conserved by way of ensuring that wildlife and other habitat were safeguarded not emphasizing a lot on guarding the environment in which individuals lived, worked and played. Environmental justice has combined the concern of the environment with care for the needy, marginalized society and those who are perceived to be future generations. It tends to tie environmental issues with issues that concern social life of an individual.

It is from the awareness made by the pope that people were encouraged to develop helpful programs that would initiate environmental justice. It is pretty evident that when individuals commit themselves to ensuring that there is a healthy environment then they are following God's rule which he entrusted to us from the very beginning of creation (Gibson, 2004). Other than the waste we throw in our environment, neglecting our responsibility of taking care of the environment also has negative impacts on other environment dependant such as the poor, hungry and those who are powerless.

In summary, it is very clear that unless people realize that environmental destruction is a sin, people will never have the ability to confront the evil that is associated to environmental degradation. It is good to understand that every activity that harms the environment is ones personal decision and every decision made by mankind is either in relation or in contravention which is what God requires of us (Gibson, 2004). It is important that people understand that every decision they make is moral, it can either be an act of virtue or that of sinful act.
