When I was 4, everyone in my class had younger or older siblings, except me. I was an only child, and extremely lonely. One day, I made a wish in a fountain to have a younger brother. 2 days later, my parents announced that I was going to become an older sister. 9 months later, my dad called home, delivering the news of my new baby brother. Ever since that day, I believe wishes do come true.
My belief in wishes has experienced difficulty throughout my life, yet, in the end, I still believe in it.
Out of all the wishes I’ve made in my lifetime, more than 75% of them have become true. Of course, wishes like, “I wish I could fly!” never came true, however wishes like “I want (blank) for my birthday” did come true. I just had to make sure that my wishes were realistic, and they all came true. This fact just made my belief become stronger.
When I was 7, two major events happened in my life that made my belief stronger and weaker. In January, my grandmother had a heart attack. I not only prayed for her, but also made wishes upon every single star in the sky. Unfortunately, my wishes didn’t come true. I lost faith in wishes, and started to think of them as little kid beliefs. I thought myself foolish for ever believing that they can come true.
My mom was 5 month pregnant at the time of my grandmother’s death. My grandmother had always wanted to be baby to be a boy. Now that she was no more, I thought it was even important for her wish to come true. Every day since the day of her death, I looked out my bedroom window and wished on the brightest star that my to come sibling will be a boy. On May 25th, 2007, my wishes came true. I couldn’t stop jumping up and down at the news, and my belief was reformed. However, I learned something new this time. I learned that no matter how much I wish on something, if an event is bound to take place, it will happen; no number of wishes can change that.
So, in that way, I started believing that wishes do come true more and more, yet at the same time, I started wishing on objects that I wanted, or what I want something to turn out to be, rather than something that I want to happen.
I am currently 13, in 7th grade, yet I still believe that wishes do come true. People have tried to change it, but I just shrug it away. My personal experience has leaded me to this belief, and if it’s false, then personal experience will lead me to change it again. However, as of now, I believe that wishes do come true so much, and nobody can change that
