Progressive digital India is Prime Minister Narender Modi's initiative which aims at making India a digitally empowered society and efficient economy. India is the largest democracy in the world; naturally, to run the most populated democracy, faster execution of government policies and planning, a robust digital system is required. So digital India drive aims to provide the basic digital infrastructure such as, broadband highways, universal access to mobile connectivity, e- governance, and participation of the people in government's policy making and enjoying the services and facilities offered by government through internet.
The ‘Digital India’ drive has given boost to increased investment in ICT sector by private companies. All the big names in telecommunications such as, AirTel, Idea, Vodafone, Reliance, TATA, Aircel, etc. have invested hugely to upgrade their infrastructure. 4G is the buzzword among Indians. All these activities are facilitating the life of the Indians as they are availing latest internet facilities at nominal rates. All this is improving the quality of their life.
The government wants to be connected to all its citizens through internet. The main focus is to connect rural India to the urban India by building modern high-speed internet infrastructure, and providing digital literacy in villages. The progressive digital India is quite a positive initiative that will surely help our country to become competitive and efficient.
As a result of the ‘Digital India’ drive, many tangible steps have been taken. For example, the central and state governments have initiated e-governance. The ultimate goal of the e-government is to be able to offer an increased portfolio of public services to citizens in an efficient and cost effective manner. It allows for government transparency because it allows the public to be informed about what the government is working on as well as the policies they are trying to implement.
With the spread of ICT infrastructure and the boom in mobile telecommunication sector, connecting every citizen to the government’s planning, implementation, and information about the key services and facilities offered by the government is not only easy, but beneficial also. Citizens are directly connected to banks, taxation, electricity, and many other government departments that send regular information about the benefits, changes, facilities regularly on their mobile phones. Distribution of LPG cylinders is an example of it. it is all digital. Similarly, India is going online. More and more people are using more internet facilities. Almost every big or small business is using internet. Many online companies are providing online shopping services. Almost everything is available on internet. And people are availing these facilities with a smile on their face.
In conclusion, the many benefits of ‘Digital India’ drive include efficiency, speed, cost and time-wastage reduction, improved services, better accessibility of public services, and more transparency and accountability. All these factors will have a positive impact on the growth and development of our economy. India will achieve its developmental goals at a fast pace. Soon the impact of ‘Digital India’ drive will be felt by the rest of the world.
Digital India
To make India more digital and more technological, government of India launched the "Digital India Campaign". The main motive of this campaign is to provide and ensure the high speed internet and electronically things to every citizen of India. This campaign was launched in the year 2015 by Prime minister of India Narenda Modi at Delhi.
The main aim of this digital India campaign is to provide high speed internet to every citizen of India, Improving online infrastructure, to provide a digital ID to every citizen, providing the availability of integrated services and departments to every citizen. To make India more digitized, government of India have created free Wi-Fi zones at public places like Metro, Railways and Airports.
Government of India ensure to have all transactions and payments online and digitized by the year 2023. Government has launched the digital locker to provide a connection between government and common people. Through this, People can send and receive e-documents, e-tendering's and many more other digital activities.
Digital India is a new motive of Indian government to make India digitized and powerful knowledge economy country. Today, there are various Villages which still don't have availability of internet, Government motives to provide high speed internet to all of these citizens. Recently, in 2019, Government also launched the new program in digital India called as "National Broadband" which is the project of 7 Billion INR. This project Aims to provide high speed internet to every village and town. Digital India program is to be coordinated by DEITY.
Digital India is today one of the most successful campaign started by Indian Government. As this world is becoming digital and electronically day by day, Government of India is trying to make india more technological and more digital. The Internet service providers of India like Jio, Airtel, idea, vodafone, BSNL was communicated by government to low down the prices of their internet plans. Jio successfully done it's work. And, in 2016, the internet users in India was increased by 5 Million, 10 Million in 2017, 15 Million and 23 Million in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
As the number of smartphone and internet users in India are increasing day by day, then it is a clear sign that, The project "Digital India'' is a successful campaign by indian government.
The three main visions of Digital India Campaign are:
i) Digital infrastructure
ii) On-demand operations and services
iii) Digital empowerment of citizens.
i) Digital infrastructure:
Providing high speed internet, Major use to online services to every citizen, creating a digital ID of every person, Mobile phone and banking making online and digitally.
ii) On demand operations and services
If common people will request government for any particular service which is not available in our country, but provided in other countries, then government will do on demand services. Citizens should be able to use all cloud apps and services for online data storage.
iii) Digital empowerment of citizens
This includes universal digital literacy, universal digital resources, services in Indian languages.
Indian Talent (IT) + Information Technology (IT) = India of tomorrow (IT).
