On Ninth day of this festival People worship the small girl children as of Maa Durga. On Tenth day of this festival people burn the effigy of RAVAN.

There is a story behind every festival, similarly a story also behind this festival. It is stated that on this day Maa Durga killed the Mahisasur and the Gods had freed from the tyranny of Ravan so this festival is celebrated in the happiness of getting free from the Mahishasur.

There is also another story that on this day Sri Ram has killed the Ravan and this world was freed from the tyranny of Ravana.
