Engineer's day is celebrated in India on 15th September, in memory of Sir Mokshgundam Visweswarayya. He was the most prominent civil engineer in India in the 20th Century. He was born in Andhra Telugu Brahmin Family. He built the (then) Asia's best dam on Kaveri river. He was a statesman and a scholar. His contribution to India's economy and respect all over the world is unparallel and limitless. He was also knighted by British Queen.
Celebrating Engineer's day isn't just to brood over our past greats. It is celebrated further for emphasizing the importance of role of engineers in building India's future. India is a developing nation. And, for development we need infrastructure. We need power. We need new inventions and innovations. We need modern technology in all fields.
We want to travel in 21st century with telecom gadgets, better fuels, new machines, digital and information technology. All these require a lot of expert and capable engineers. Our nation expects to have tens of millions of workforce in the next five years.
In the last three decades India progressed and earned fame in the world with its smart and intelligent engineers spread all over the world. Let's also learn from an engineer's role. Engineer a conceives, designs, implements, checks and installs it. Engineer's work proceeds in a planned and discipline way. An engineer builds tools to make future work easier and reach higher levels of maturity and capability.
In real life too, we need to conceive a goal for our life, design the steps and follow the plan overcoming the hurdles and setbacks. Improve upon our living standard. Always be with positive approach and thinking attitude. An engineer achieves a solution by breaking down a problem and step wise incremental improvements. In our life, we can break the path towards our life goal into achievable milestones and achieve them without fail.
There is a funny way of praising an Engineer. A joke goes as follows. An engineer had gone to Hell after his death. He felt it too hot and miserable. He worked to make AC work. Then he did the TV and the Hell Social Media. He built whatever needed for his comfortable living in the Hell. Everyone is happy.
One day God visits Hell and sees everyone happy and cool. He called the Devil and asked him about it. The Devil told the God about the engineer's deeds. God realized the mistake and asked the Devil to return the engineer. Devil said no. God angrily said that he would sue the Devil. Devil happily smiled and said "Where you will get a lawyer? "
So an engineer transforms our outdated and obsolete lifestyles into more fashioned and elegant ones. Three cheers to Engineers !
