There are basic fundamental rights of all citizen. These are irrespective of race, place of birth, religion,caste,creed or gender. They are enforceable by courts, subject to specific restrictions.
Fundamental duties are defined as the moral obligations of all citizen to help promote a spirit of patriotism and to uphold unity of India and concern the individuals and the nation.

Fundamental rights are the basic rights without which no individual can develop himself/herself to the fullest extent possible. These rights are justiciable in nature and allow individual to lead a dignified life. They are broad and comprehensive and are guaranteed by the Constitution.
These rights are important for the very sustenance of Democracy in India because of the following reasons:
a. These rights allow every individual without any discrimination to exercise his franchise, to elect government and be elected to government. Right to equality,right to freedom, right to vote guarantees free and fair elections.
b. Fundamental rights allow individuals to form groups, associations to promote their interests and to ventilate their grievances.
c. Rights also allow individuals to form political parties and to freely contest and compete in elections.
The fundamental duties define the moral obligations of all citizens to help in the promotion of the spirit of patriotism and to uphold the unity of India. However , they are not legally enforceable.
