                            GAUTAM BUDDHA

Gautam Buddha was the founder of Buddhism. He was born in a royal family at Lumbini. His father,Shudhodan, was the king of Kapilavastu. In his childhood days, he was called as Siddhartha.He was a quiet and soft-spoken child. He did not enjoy royal comforts of the palace. He was married to the beautiful princess, Yashodhara. From their marraige, they had a son, Rahul.

         Siddhartha came across an old man, an ailing person,  the procession of the dead person and a saint. This was at different occasions, while he was moving a chariot. These different encounters made him restless. He decided to find a way out of the human sufferings.

         He wandered here and there in search of truth and reached Gaya. Here he sat under a peepal tree and meditated for many years. Finally, he attained enligtenment. He went from place to place, preaching people about truth. They started calling him as Gautam Buddha.

       Buddha's teachings were simple.Soon  he had a great following.
