Answer:
Greed Brings Misery
Greed is a covetous desire to acquire wealth and power. There’s no place for morality and ethics when greed overpowers one’s conscience. Greed makes on think wrong, speak wrong and act wrong. Anger, jealousy and bitterness are its best companions. There’s no peace of mind. Though there’s a momentary joy over one’s acquisitions but it vanishes the moment h/she realises someone has more than him/her. The joy is replaced by jealousy. Greed propels one’s energy and attention towards outwitting another person and taking over his possessions. Greed is known to awaken grief and the tendency of having more often leads to the loss of what one really has. A small story given below displays this truth.
Sameer was a greedy man. His intense desire to increase his wealth was so strong that he sometimes opted shortcuts for seizing others’ wealth by unfair means. One day he went to the market. On his way back, he realised he had lost his purse. He was shattered as the purse had Rs. 20,000. Disappointed and angry about his carelessness, he visited his friend Tanish and told him everything. Tani consoled him for his loss.
In the afternoon, Meghna - Tanish’s wife came back from the market and gave a purse to him. She informed that she had found this purse lying on the street. Since there was a huge amount of money in it she brought it back home so that he could inform the police regarding it. Tanish was sure this purse belonged to Sameer. He immediately rang him and gave him the news. Sameer came over as fast as he could. But greed overtook him and he planned something really bad. Tanish handed over the purse to him and Sameer went through it. But then he frowned and accused him and his wife for stealing money. He yelled at his friend about having Rs. 30,000 in his purse and that he and his wife had stolen 10 grands. Tanish was astonished and flatly refused. He was convinced that greed can show the worst side of a person.
Sameer took a legal action. On the day of the trial, the judge heard out what both the parties had to say and came to a conclusion. He declared that the purse didn’t belong to Sameer. Since Meghna had found the purse and no one had claimed it, the money belonged to her now. If anybody would report about a purse having Rs. 30,000, then it would be returned to Sameer. Seeing his plan backfiring he confessed about his wrong doing but the judge held to what he had said. So we see how greed brought about misery in Sameer’s life.
