There is a little too much greed going on in society and some psychologist believed that America is the land of the greed. Greed means selfish on desire beyond reason. America is the leader of capitalism. Capitalism makes a country rich and a lot of modernized things to fit in people's daily life. The needs of those modernized things make people more greed than ever. When there's too much greed, people suffer.
On personal level, it makes people devious, petty, unlovable and very jealous. What most people want is money, lots of money, tons of money, along with the tons of things that it buys, along with the prestige that comes with having tons of money, along with the mass attention that comes along with it. As people need more money, it is not enough that they work hard at a full-time job. If they come up with a bunch of money games, and if they become very good at them, then they believe that they should be entitled to out earn their neighbors suddenly by double their amount, or triple or ten times, etc. There will be much lying, cheating, backstabbing and suffering as there needs to be until they obtain their needs.
One of the exact problems here is that people wish that other people will handle a problem. It's rather common want lost of money, as much as you can get, as much as people tell you you're entitled to. Some famous people might possibly have special needs, since ordinary people are not hounded constantly by the press and by the public. Famous people might possibly need a bigger, more secure house, as well as special transportation when the ordinary people are trying to fill their live with basic needs. Sometime, the wealth and complete life of famous people can drive crazy on the normal, ordinary citizens.

Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days leading up to Christmas. Consumers stand in line hours if not days before the doors open. The sales begin in the early hours of the morning; typically around 5 a.m. Shoppers save hundreds of dollars on all of the latest gadgets and accessories. But, the insane deals come with a catch. Several customers and employees end up bruised, injured, and even killed during the event. Greed for the lowest price during the holiday season has led to countless fights for a discounted item. Greed is a main theme expressed throughout The Hobbit written by J.R.R Tolkien

In The Hobbit, the plot of the story is filled with greed; often, this leads to disaster. Thorin and company’s greed for not sharing the gold backfires on the group. The group of dwarves’ find themselves stuck in prison. As the group travels through the forest, the Elvish king abducts them. The king has one goal: (Colon) to uncover the motive behind the dwarves in his domain. Thorin instructs his group to keep their journey a secret. The group remains in prison for an excessive amount of time due to the greed of Thorin. To avoid this situation, (Introducer) Thorin could tell the king his real motive behind entering the forest. Thorin believes if the king finds out about the gold, the elves’ will attempt to take a share of the treasure. Foolishly, Thorin decides the treasure is worth more than his freedom, “When they took their spell off him (Thorin) and he came to his senses … he was determined that no word of gold or jewels should be dragged out of him” (169). ...ess. The greed for fresh wine leads to the escape of the dwarves. Most of the races share a common characteristic, greed which often leads to their downfall.

J.R.R Tolkien artfully depicts in The Hobbit how greed often leads to a disastrous outcome. Greed can strike every type of person, even the leader of a group. Thorin, the leader of the dwarves, is plagued by greed for the wealth inside the mountain. Secondary characters can also be drawn into greed. The spiders attempt to harness the most amount of food for the group, but end up losing all of the food. (Linker) The disastrous end to the antagonists is mainly due to greed. For one, Smaug wants revenge for the missing golden cup. After many days of fighting, Smaug is killed during the battle of the lake men. Society as a whole believes the need for materialistic goods is worth the agony required to obtain them.
