joint family = more members living together related by blood other than a couple and their children.

Advantages -

Always find someone for company at home. Loneliness can be avoided.

Share the burden of expenses - rent, bills, groceries with other earning members in the family.

   Share the responsibilities.

Share the household chores among all the members.

Different generations contribute best of their worlds in running of the family efficiently.

More birthdays, more celebrations in the year.

   Ability to adjust.

   Tolerance threshold is higher.

More members in the family , there is higher diversity in ideas and solutions.

Usually with many members we see there are more rules in the house, which help in living a disciplined life.

Disadvantages -

   Privacy and space issues.

Difference of opinions is higher as there are more opinions with more number of members in the family.

Amount of workload is more - quantity of cooking, washing clothes etc..

If application of rules are not fairly applied then rise in conflicts can be expected.

Size of family and it’s issues can be tackled if communication and expression of self is open and free for everyone in the house. Balance in joint duties, routine tasks and freedom of personal time and expenses have to regulated and revised from time to time.

Answer:

A family when living together as a collection of relatives such as grandparents and siblings is called a joint family. The Indians understand the importance of joint family system since time immemorial. However, the new generation of the society is shying away from living jointly with their parents and grandparents. These people usually miss a lot of fun and care, which could cause a lot of problems in the future such as loneliness and frustration. In the joint family, all members are equally sharing their contribution for a healthy contribution and even share their personal experiences for strengthening the bond. Similarly, children can also easily get help from their parents. Sharing resources can help parents reduce the expenses and promote a loving family system in the form of joyful events such as birthdays and anniversaries. Hence, joint family system is very important to flourish in our society
