Life is boring without adventure.
Yesterday, I and my classmates Dexter and Angely went to the Cultural Center of the Philippines to watch Cinemalaya, where Philippines showcase independent films.
We were required by our Film professor to watch at CCP instead of watching it in our university (since Cinemalaya comes to our university the week after its awarding ceremony). Our class got surprised and agitated when she told us this because all those times, we thought that we'll watch it in our theater. Yesterday was the last day of showing at CCP and all of the tickets were sold out.
CCP is somewhat far from our place. I live in Marikina and CCP is located at the heart of Manila. (Google Map is your friend. :]) Going there was very inconvenient, tiring and haggard at the same time. Even though we didn't know what to expect and what would come up from our trip, we still went to CCP, hoping that we could still catch up with one Cinemalaya film.
I should've wished for Felix Felicis from Professor Slughorn this day. The movie left open was the late FPJ's film, Langit at Lupa. It was included under the Cinemalaya but it was different. I also don't like FPJ films because Filipino action films are always cliched (the protagonist ould have a speech before his leading lady dies, the police would come after the shootout between the gang of hoodlums of the protagonist and antagonist was finished).
I, Dexter and Angely were left with no choice: we should watch in our university or else we don't have material for our paper to be submitted this friday.
We decided to stroll around the CCP since it was our first time inside (except for Dexter). We went inside a gallery with creepy and weird stuff, a gallery full of photographs from old films, a museum for Asian instruments (which later on we found out has an entrance fee) and a function room full of mirrors that were really creepy. The room smelled like old papers (we were nearly locked up inside which made us like characters from a horror film). It had a nice view of the Manila Bay, though. We bumped an acquaintance of ours as we were strolling and found out he volunteered to work in CCP.
My headaches was excruciatingly painful. But I was able to endure it the whole trip because I was having fun. I prefer enduring it than missing the fun. I love exploring and discovering new places.
We went to a nearby KFC to eat. I haven't eaten breakfast nor lunch that time. It was nearly twilight when we ate.
I told them that we should watch the awarding ceremony of Cinemalaya, so that our visit would be paid off but Dexter insisted that we should go home since he had a paper due that night.
Dexter went ahead. Angely and I stayed behind since our direction going home is the same.
Angely needed this book called The Imperfectionists by Rachman for her English subject. She searched many bookstores for this but was unsuccessful to buy one since all of the bookstores she went to ran out of stock of this book.
We tried our luck in the nearest bookstore to where we were. The customer service representative referred us to a nearby mall since it still had three copies of the book. Angely was hopeful. We went there and got the book, finally. We took another stroll at the mall since it was our first time there. We stopped by a shop that attracted my attention. It was a dress shop and I like one dress in display. I wanted to know how much that was. I was supposed to enter the store but Angely told me it was locked. How ironic it was to see the 'open' sign when the store was locked. Gave us a good laugh.
We had to go to Recto to ride the train back home. Along the way there, I acted as Angely's tour guide because I've already gone there last summer, when I accompanied my high school mate, Marcelle, to her university (which was located along Taft). We passed by Malate (known for cheap bars), Ermita (somewhat historical), National Museum, Manila City Hall, Luneta and Rizal Park, Pasig River and Quiapo Church. When we alighted at Recto station, we stopped by Isetann and bought groceries there (we had 3 boxes of Gandour Safari for ourselves because of the buy 1 take 3 promo of the grocery store).
We parted ways at Katipunan. I immediately went to sleep upon arriving home because I have been sleep deprived for the week.
Oh yeah, as I and Angely were walking a long pathway going to the train station, we passed by a slum area that had cable satellite subscription and air conditioner. Wow. We felt anshamed that I and Angely don't own any.
Jeepney ride to Cubao-train to Recto-walk from Recto to Doroteo Jose-train to Vito Cruz-shuttle to CCP complex-shuttle back to Vito Cruz-pedicab ride to Harrison Plaza-jeepney ride to Recto-train to Katipunan-jeepney ride to home = A FUN MANILA ADVENTURE.
