When they started to move across continents, geographical location and climate have influenced their behavior and life style. Humans have started to multiply within some suitable geographical locations. They started to improve their life style by adapting the location. All the above things were completely impossible if there were no proper communication.
People have invented their own way of communication. According to their understanding they have created their own language. They used to communicate everything in that language and stared to understand the nature and its properties around them.
Without mother tongue, humans species couldn't have evolved this much.
