Peace and harmony are very important for any society to work smoothly. In order to provide a safe environment for its citizens, the Government of India takes steps to maintain peace in the country. However often peace and harm are impaired due to various social, political and economic factors. Here are a look at these factors and examples are given when peace and harmony in the country have been interrupted.
Factors Affecting Peace and Harmony
Political issues
In an effort to fulfill their selfish interests, political parties generally incite people to create a climate of turmoil and disturbances in the country.
Terrorism
Terrorist attacks have always disrupted peace and harmony in the country. Such attacks cause great fears among the people.
religion
Some religious groups try to influence people of other religions and force them to follow their religion or to condemn other religions. This has caused communal violence many times. Apart from these, inter-state issues, reservation system, price rise, poverty and unemployment have also disrupted peace and harmony in the country.
Examples of dissolution of peace and harmony
1967 Ranchi Hatia riots
These communal riots took place in Ranchi and its surroundings in August 1967. They continue for almost a week. During this, 184 people were killed.
1969 Gujarat Riots
After the partition of India, the most deadly Hindu-Muslim riots were the riots of Gujarat. These took place during September-October 1969.
Worli riots
These riots took place on the issue of reservation between Shiv Sena and members of Dalit Panther in Mumbai. In 1974 Dalit Panther leader Bhagwat Jadhav was killed.
Moradabad riots
These riots during August 1980 were partly a Hindu-Muslim and partly the struggle between the Muslim-police. The riots began when the Muslims threw stones at the police because the police refused to remove the pig from the local Idgah. The violent incidents continued until November 1980.
1993 Bombay bomb blasts
There was a series of 12 bomb blasts in Bombay on March 12, 1993. One of the most devastating bomb blasts in India, Bombay Bomb Blast was executed in 1992 in response to the Babri Masjid demolition.
2000 church bombings
This bomb blast was a serial bomb blast in the states of Goa, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The bomb blast was carried out by the Islamist extremist group, Gandhara Anjuman in 2000.
Conclusion
It is necessary for every citizen of India to understand the importance of peace and harmony in the country. We all should work to maintain peace.
