Pesticides and chemical fertilizers have been used and are being used since a long time throughout the world for combating pests and boosting agricultural productivity. There has always been the problem of pests and diseases which would greatly affect or reduce crop productivity and inflict upon people the wrath of famines.                                                        Pesticides are a class of chemicals that are used to kill/combat or manage the population of pests. Term pest is given to any organisms like fungi, insects and rodents that harm crops and compete with crop plants for space, light nutrients or otherwise interfere with the wellbeing of the human beings.  
Crop losses due to pests is the biggest challenge that confronts our agriculture sector today. Pests consume or harm a large portion of agricultural crops, without the use of pesticides, it is very likely that they would consume a higher percentage and cause huge loses to productivity.

Pesticides play a vital role in boosting the agricultural productivity. The benefits of pesticides include increased food production, increased profits for farmers and the prevention of diseases. By producing more crops, farmers are also able to increase profits by having more produce to sell. Pesticides also increase farm profits by helping the farmer save money on labour costs by reducing the amount of time required to manually remove weeds and pests from fields.
