Though we can respect a person without really ‘Loving’ her/him, but ‘loving’ someone without respecting them is beyond any cognitive reasoning.

‘Respect’ is an emotion, in fact a conscious emotion. ‘Love’ is more of a ‘State of mind’, more so an unconscious one. They are definitely not mutually exclusive but ‘love’ is definitely the sub set of ‘Respect.’

There can be people who might have a counter argument and they will probably the ones who are currently in state of mind of ‘Love’. But looking at life in realistic terms, the benefits of being ‘respected’ and ‘not loved’ by the people who surround you outweighs the benefits of being ‘loved’ and ‘not being respected.’

From the cognitive understanding perspective, there can be a very strong argument that ‘Love’ just CAN NOT exist without ‘respect’. I mean, how can you love someone who you do not respect? Though I have read some experiences on Quora where people confess that they have had relationships where they were ‘Loved’ but not ‘respected’ and, unfortunately all those relationships FAILED.

Anyway, coming to the bottom line, if someone is accepting someone who is just ‘Loving’ and not ‘respectful’ to the person in question, s/he should not be surprised if s/he has to face any/all of the following side effects:

  • Low self-Esteem
  • Lost confidence
  • More negative thoughts
  • Disinterest in the person who is just ‘Loving’
  • Decreased communication with the person
  • Decreased ‘Love’ i.e. this state of mind becomes less and less frequent.

There might be an end to the relationship

Can you imagine how miserable can life be when you are not respected by the person who you ‘think’ loves you?

Hope you get someone who really loves you and more than that really ‘RESPECTS’ you.
