Answer:

My First Time Riding a Bicycle:

For something that I saw people ride with a lot of ease, I didn't know that it would be so hard and dangerous when I finally got the opportunity.

I remember the first time I got on a bicycle and got my first try on riding it - all hell broke loose. To be honest, I could have easily lost my life on that day. I learnt how to ride a bicycle quite late in life, when I was about 12 years of age. The experience was not like all other people; learning from their dad, granddad or big brother, no! I heard to learn from my friends, who were rough, careless and reckeless.

The reason why I term my friends as reckless is because my first lesson on riding a bicycle was done on a highway with vehicles moving by. The traffic on this road was not that busy, but still, there were vehicles using the road. To make things worse, we had no helmets, shoulder pads or knee pads. I guess you can already see the reason why I said, I could have easily lost my life.

So many years have gone by, but this is still fresh on my mind like it just happened yesterday. We were about four friends, all waiting for turns on the same bicycle. The bicycle belonged to one of my friends and he was already good at riding. The other two had already had the privilege of riding a couple of times hence they were not that green. I was the only rookie at the moment.

I watched with uttter amazement as they took turns riding. Shorlty after, I heard one of my friends call out to me, "hey, do you want to try?" I hesitated for a split second but the urge of the thrill was too much for me to resist.

"Sure thing," I replied. That is the moment I was handed over the bike. One my friends volunteered to help me learn. He held the bike for me as I tried to balance and pedal at the same time. Without knowing it, I was balancing, pedalling and started moving down the steep road.

Things all started going south when I realized my friend had let go of the bicycle. Here I was, a first timer on a bicycle, moving down a steep road. If you though that was bad, from nowhere, I see a vehicle approaching from a distance and fast. I was lost, I could not even remember how to apply the brakes. The only option I had was to ride into the ditch that was alongside the road and that is exactly what I did.

I still remember being in that ditch, hurt and bleeding. My friends helped me out of the ditch. I thank God I was not hurt so much or and didn't break any bones.

That was not the last time I rode that bike and it was definitely not the last time I ended up in a ditch or a bush along the road. I guess I was also reckless and careless. At the end of it, I came out an excellent bicycle rider.

Thank you
