The Constitution of India is the most important asset of citizens. It is the supreme law of land and lays down the framework demarcating fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions. The Constitution sets out rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.

The government legislates and runs the country according to the Constitution. It limits the powers of the government and empowers the citizens. The Constitution protects the citizens from the oppression of state and discrimination from the people. It provides equality in all spheres of life. It allows us to express ourselves freely and criticize the wrong doings of the government. It allows us to move freely and choose and practice our faith. It allows us to choose our government and overthrow the same if it goes against the aspirations of the people.

The Constitution also makes us a responsible citizen through the Fundamental duties. It provides guidelines to the state through the directive principles of State policy in order to provide welfare to the people and make India a welfare state. It ensures the vertical and horizontal sharing of power which makes democracy stable. It also provides for the local self government. It provides for justice to the citizens of India. It provides that India is a democratic republic.

In short the constitution of India is very significant not only for the all-round development of an individual but of the whole state as well.
