Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or suspense. An intense stress situation for an individual may prove to be a gentle one for another, for yet another person the situation might not be eligible as a stress factor at all.
sreeveda1:
A stress condition can be real or apparent. Yet, our brain reacts the same way to both conditions by releasing stress hormones equal to the degree of stress felt. It is said that life acts and you react. Our attitude is our reaction to what life hands out to us. A major amount of stress can be avoided or aroused by the way we relate to stressors. Stress is created by what we think rather than by what has actually happened.

Stress is the demand made upon the adaptive capabilities of our mind and body. In the olden days, the daily chores were limited. there were no wives and no husbands. everyone belonged to everyone and no one belonged to anyone. They did not have to make houses. they lived in ready made ones, the caves. the only competition was from bears and other animals already living in them. The only stress they had was from carnivorous animals (dinosaurs). the stress lasted till they were attacked then it was all gone.
Then, as a man got organized into races and countries and when the institution of marriage was brought in, the stress became little more serious. but it was manageable. they even had wars, but the wars were short lasting, though very intense. the body began to get used to these kinds of stress.
In these cases, the body will experience some kind of changes like:
the heart rate goes up.
the blood circulations to the skin and the stomach reduce.
the blood pressure goes up.
Many more changes take place.
These days, stress is at all leaves. Schools, colleges, offices, home and every other place. Stress is omnipresent and the changes of the fight and flight reflex stay on and on, for days, weeks, months even years. Hence the following changes will become permanent:
the pulse is always high.
the BP will always be elevated, producing hypertension.
the blood sugar will be high thereby causing diabetes.
the skin will be cold and dry producing skin diseases.
the stomach will be prone to acidic and peptic ulcers.
the brain will always be tense.
ALL THESE CHANGES WILL CAUSE BRAINSTROKES AND HEART ATTACKS.
the result is that stress produces a very sick man. Hence young boys and girls suffer from heart attacks and wonder why! There is a catch here. not everyone suffers bad effect. it all depends on the way they react to the particular stressor. For example, the reaction would come differently from different people if precisely told that 5 pm, there will be a nuclear attack from a hostile neighboring country would destroy the whole city Mumbai. the person who thinks that he would rather do his favorite thing than sitting around crying a bucketful of tears would definitely have a lesser amount of stress.
so it is understood that it all depends on the way they react to the particular stressor.
