Answer:
“Television and video are corrupting the minds of the young”
Any scientific invention has its merits and demerits. Television plays an important role in our life. It’s like a switch which gives access to knowledge and entertainment from different parts of the world. The effects of television and video on the minds of the young is profound both for the better and the worse. The positive effects on the young mind lead to more knowledge and information. There are countless TV channels and programs focusing on different aspects of the society, education, science, technology, history and more. It’s like an encyclopaedia providing a plethora of information starting from current happenings, new conceptions to technology around the world. Newspapers and radio shows also pass on information but TV’s advantage lies in its visual aspect. The visual effect stays longer in the minds of people so they remember in a better way. TV is a medium of entertainment. After a long day, taking a break is important. If you want to watch a movie, turn on a movie channel and watch as per your choice. This helps to relax the mind and then you can get along with your studies again.
On the other hand, watching television makes people less active. We are at the receiving end so we grasp whatever we see on TV. Long hours of TV viewing affects the imagination of young people, sometimes cutting them off completely from the real world. Often we hear parents complaining about their children spending too much of their time before the television. Long hours of TV viewing disrupts concentration in children which encourages them to ignore their study. They opt out from outdoors activities and spend less time with their family. This mental laziness slowly converts to physical laziness. Another negative effect of watching TV is that it makes the young ones violent. Many programs they watch display violent content which affects their sensitive minds. Getting influenced by them they try to do the same in real life which often leads to serious problems, accidents and even death.
It’s important to balance! Fixing up a particular time for TV viewing can curb the negative effects to a great extent. Plus, exercising parental control is important when it comes to children watching TV.
