Windmills were first made over 2,000 years ago in ancient Persia (Iran), but were used to grind grain and other simple chores.
Centuries later in Holland windmills were changed so that they could be turned to face the wind. The purpose of the windmill was still limited in the work it could do, as it was still used to grind grain and pull up water from wells. Yesterdays Windmills were primarily used to convert the winds kinetic energy into mechanical power.
Windmills weren't made to produce electricity until the 1930's. Windmills made in small towns not attached to any other power grids. Windmills being used for electricity had just begun, and it quickly stopped when power lines were attached worldwide.
In the 19th century windmills were brought to the United States for irrigation purposes. Wind powered Electricity came back into the picture in the 1970's when oil shortages had people looking for alternative energy sources. Energy prices rose and the thoughts of "free" wind energy were in the air. When first windmills were built they were very expensive, but after a lot of research was done towards the factors of windmills they were made to be much cheaper. The cost was cheaper than the energy produced at an average power plant, but the only problem was that windmills couldn't be placed just anywhere. To get the most energy from a windmill it had to be placed in a flat area with a lot of wind. The vertical and the horizontal axis windmills are the only two different windmills, while within each two groups there are many designs and forms of windmills.

windmill are used to generate electricity.
as wind is a renewable energy or resource so it can't exhaust so we can use the power again and again without providing any damage to our environment. it helps us a lot
