'World Ocean Day' is celebrated on 8th June every year. This day was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. Since then it has been coordinated internationally by The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network with greater success and global participation each year.
Organizations and individuals from around the world come together on this day to celebrate the oceans, reflect on their importance in our lives, and take time to do something good for our blue planet. The two-year theme for World Ocean Day for 2013 and 2014 is together we have the power to protect the ocean!
A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. Oceans are very important:

What is an ocean:-
We can say in short that a huge sea is called an ocean or the ocean is the huge expansion of a sea in which land is present and sea is ocean is cut-off to make seas and water is present in very high quantity.

It is a unique day to respect,understand,conserve,study oceans.It is celebrated on 8th June every year :)
What is the importance of Oceans?
Oceans plays a major role in living being's life.It covers about three-quarters of earth's surface area and have 97% of the whole planet's water.As it is present in very huge amount,it produces more than half of the total oxygen of the earth and absorbs carbon dioxide in very large amount..About half of the world's total population i.e 3.5 billion is living on the coastal areas of earth and hence ocean's plays a major role in their occupation. $500 billion of the world's total economy is just because of the ocean and the food which we eat is also a part of the ocean.It also supports the earth's biodiversity as all the aquatic animals live in oceans and hence take breathe their so oceans also give oxygen to the aquatic animal.They also helps in the transportation of good from one place to another through ships and also helps in voyages.They also provides hydroelectric power so that we can't have any shortage of electricity.It is also a natural resource.
Conditions of Oceans:-
Conditions of ocean is very bad as scientist thought.Oceans are deteriorating more rapidly due to rapid increase in carbon dioxide level.There is also global warming due to which oceans are being harmed.The ocean is also harming because of rapid decrease in oxygen level on earth.The continuing throwing of Industries waste into oceans which can not be decompose for thousands of years.
