There is no link between democracy and development. If there was the Soviet Union previously and China wouldn't be developed, rising superpowers, and superpowers eventually.
Non-Democracies develop faster than democracies. But as fast they as develop, they even fall apart faster. There population enjoy all the benefits of being developed, but only one benefit which they can’t enjoy is FREEDOM. A benefit that has bigger value than being developed.
I’ll explain you in a simple story.
Let’s for example say, there is a young high school graduate student called MR.A
Now, MR.A is very very poor, and he wants to get rich quickly. Now, his parents who are not democratic at all, enroll him in a mathematics and science course in college without his consent. They force him to study for 20 hours day, sleep for only four, no friends, no parties, no girlfriends, no enjoyment. Just study, and achieve top grades. And worst of all, MR.A will get beaten up if he speaks against these rules, or violates them in any way.
Soon, Mr.A graduates out of college in flying colours. He gets the top most paid job in the world, in a world best company, in a best position. Everything is best. But, by this time Mr.A has developed anti-social behaviour, he was brought ruthlessly by his parents, he is so ruthless that he will do any harm to anyone in order to gain wealth and influence.
And sure enough, he climbs to the top of his company with his ruthless methods. But, yet still he isn't allowed to speak anything against his parent’s decisions at home. He soon takes over the company, and becomes a billionaire. His parents decide to get him married to a girl, without his consent again. She is hot and rich, but she doesnt love Mr.A, she loves his wealth.
Sure, enough you can say Mr.A is a success story. He is rich, and he has a hot wife.
But he is a billionaire, who has no absolute freedom to speak on anything that affects his life, he is virtually controlled by his parents, who think they have done good by making him rich. He has a wife who doesn’t love him, his personality, only his wealth.
And above all, he isn’t happy.
And you guessed it MR.A isn’t democracy. Mr. A is like the Soviet Union back in the old days, and China now.
The World’s oldest communist state and the World’s largest communist state are like Mr.A
Rich, influential and successful. But still the people of China, have no freedom that normal functioning democracies enjoy.
There is a Mr.B also by the way. He graduated from high school went to college and dropped out, took a small inheritance from his parents, and was free to choose any career.
He established a start-up in his parent’s garage with a bunch of his high school dropout friends. He dated a girl, who loved him.
And it took him years to take off. He saw Mr. A his neighbour becoming a billionaire, got bit jealous but worked his way up.
And in a few years time, his corporation became a multi-billionaire dollar company, making him the richest man. He was happy, now with a loving wife and a multi-billion dollar empire.
Mr. B is a democracy, who had freedom. Mr. B is like the United States back in the day. India now.
The World’s Oldest Democracy and the World’s largest democracy are both like Mr.B. So are all other democracies.
In conclusion.
Democracies may be a bit slow in development, but in the end they endure thorough centuries with a stable government system and a stable economy.
But, non-democracies develop a lot faster. But, they fall apart even faster than the develop.
