Human beings have evolved through the rhythms of nature. Human civilization is

always accompanied with the plants providing its sustaining ecosystem i.e. plants are the

integral parts of human society. Till today almost all the ethnic communities have developed

their tradition, livelihood and cultural functions relied mainly on the plants through

generations through indigenous knowledge systems. In Rig Veda and Atharva Veda

numerous plants are described as medicinal (Jain,1995). Ethnobotany is the study of

immediate relationship between human society and plants. It can also be defined as the study

of the relationship between people and plants and commonly refer to the study of indigenous

uses of plants. In other word it is a marriage between Anthropology and Botany, a study that

investigate uses of plants as medicine, nourishment, natural resources and food. It is also

recognized as a multidisciplinary science comprising with many interesting and useful

aspects of plant scienc
