On heating ethyl alchohal with alumina at 350 degree celcius, we get
(a) ethene
Ethyl alcohol heated at 350 degreeC in the presence of alumina catalyst undergoes dehydration to produce ethylene (or ethene). This process of preparing ethylene from ethyl alcohol is called Ipatieff’s process.
