In eukaryotic cells, transcription cannot begin until DNA replication has been completed.
DNA replication is the first phase of protein synthesis. During DNA replication, copies are produced from a single strand of DNA, which are then wound into the double-helix conformation. This process is controlled by multiple enzymes, most importantly DNA polymerase. Once a new DNA is produced, transcription can begin, in which mRNA will be synthesized.
