Changes in chromosome number can occur by the addition of all or part of a chromosome (aneuploidy), the loss of an entire set of chromosomes (monoploidy) or the gain of one or more complete sets of chromosomes (euploidy). Each of these conditions is a variation on the normal diploid number of chromosomes.

EUPLOIDY:

Euploidy is the condition of  cell when there are more than two set of chromosomes in cell which is not natural. It is produced due to the fusion of haploid cell with something other than haploid cells.

There can be various types of Euploidy –

  • Monosomy is actually the haploid cell and denoted by n.
  • Diploid cells are the normal cells having two set of chromosomes and denoted by 2n.
  • Triploid cells are having three sets of chromosomes denoted by 3n and so on.
