'The Fun They Had' is a futuristic story in many ways:

  1. Dependency on robots- As robots are getting popular, they are becoming a threat to human employees. In the story, Margie has a robotic teacher, instead of a human being. So, it is a futuristic story.
  2. Books becoming obsolete- Even today, people are using digital gadgets instead of physical books, to get information from. The author gives us a glimpse of a time in the future when books will completely cease to exist, except as a thing of the past.
  3. No community learning- With time, people are becoming more and more isolated. The amount of meaningful interaction with other humans is steadily decreasing. In this story, the idea of a community school simply does not exist. There are no schools, and no classmates. This is quite a possibility, given the situation today.
