103 × 97

We can write it as

(100 + 3) × (100 - 3)

= (100 + 3)(100 - 3)

Using the identity :

(x + y)(x - y) =  {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2}

Putting x = 100
and y = 3

 =  {(100)}^{2}  -  {(3)}^{2}  \\  \\  = 10000  - 9 \\  \\  = 9991
