Answer:

The Maharaja of Pratibandapuram or the ‘Tiger King’ was happy still after losing three lakh rupees because he could retain his kingship and not forego it to the Bristish, at the same time he maintained the right to kill a hundred tigers and save his life.

Explanation:

The astrologers had prophesied that the Maharaja would meet his death at the hands of a tiger if he couldn’t kill hundred tigers. The Maharaja thus banned all tiger killings in his kingdom so that he could kill them himself. When a ‘British officer’ wanted to kill a tiger he thus refused him and angered him greatly.

To reconcile, the Maharaja had to spend three lakh rupees paying for the diamond rings he gifted to the British officer’s wife. But this heavy loss did not sadden him as he retained the right to his kingdom and also the right to kill the tigers.
