That is true as even when our MUSCLES aren't active (that's what you mean when you say we don't do any apparent activity), the rest of our body is sure active. The heart is beating, our respiratory functions are going on, the brain is also functioning, the walls of the digestive tract are absorbing nutrients form the food you ate, and there are a million more examples of what is going on inside our bodies when we aren't physically active. Hence, we need energy even when we don't do apparent activity.
