every plants grows on soil (which is not a living a living thing) . dont you think every plant should be called saprotrophs ? give an explation to support the answer.

Well, plants grows on soil is true we also grow on land but the difference is that we are mobile but not plants and plants derive their nutrition from the soil such as nitrogen, phosphorus, iron and magnesium and other minerals from the water.

But wait, this doesn't mean that plants are saprotrophs (an organism that use hydrolytic enzymes to feed on decaying matter is called saprotrophs.) as they do not get food from an organic source rather they meet energy demand from an inorganic source i.e. the sunlight. We are also dependent directly or indirectly on plants for food source.

Conclusion : Plants are not saprotrophs.
