Every specie is an integral part of the ecosystem where all the parts are interconnected to each other. Every specie no matter how small help to increase the productivity and health of the system. For example, a large number of species of plant will lead to more variety of vegetation, providing habitat to more species of animal. This greater diversity of species helps in ensuring natural sustainability of all forms of  life at various levels of food chain. The Unique way in which a specie helps an ecosystem can be seen from the example of how nitrogen fixation bacteria helps in better growth of various plants, which provide sustenance to other species in the food chain.
