Given,

The solubility product of chalk = 9.3 × 10^{-8}

To find,

Solubility of chalk in gram per litre.

Solution,

In order to solve the question quickly and easily we can follow the given steps.

From what knowledge, we have of this chapter in Chemistry we know that,

The chemical equation for the formation of chalk is

CaCO_{3}Ca^{2+}+CO{3} ^{2-}

Now, we are going to let the solubility of CaCO_{3} be S moles per litre.

For that first we have to calculate the K_{sp} , the formula for which is

K_{sp}=[Ca^{2+}][CO_{3} ^{2-}]

S=\sqrt{K_{sp} }=\sqrt{(9.3)(10^{-8} )}=0.000304 mole/litre

Now, the solubility in gram/litre is calculated to be

= mole/litre × molecular weight of CaCO_{3}

= 0.000304 × 100

= 0.0304 gram/litre

Hence, the solubility of chalk in gram/litre is calculated to be 0.0304.
