Ex: A man takes 8 hours to walk to a certain place and
ride back. However, he could have gained 2 hrs, if he
had covered both ways by riding. How long would
he have taken to walk both ways?​

Let x be the time taken by walking and y be the time taken by riding.

.°.   ATP :-    x + y = 8

           or,  x = 8 - y --------- (1)

Again,    y + y = 8 - 2

         or, 2y = 6

         or, y = 3

Now, putting the value of y in eq. (1), we get,

         x = 8 - 3 = 5

Time taken to walk both ways = x + x = 2x = 2(5) = 10 hrs. (Ans.)
