1.The white settlers first settled in the Appalachian plateau from where they moved to Mississippi valley ,and after 1860's swept in the Great plains across the river Mississippi.

2. Agrarian expansion led to displacement of local tribes. They were driven beyond the river Mississippi and later further west.

3. The westward expansion provided the impetus for development of new technologies in agriculture,to meet the requirements of new habitats and land.

4.the settlers kept moving towardsthe west. By the 18th century they settled in appalachian plateau, between 1820-1850 they moved on to missisipi valley. By the 1860s they settled in great plains across the missisipi valley.

5. wherever the settlers went they slashed and burnt the forest. Cleared the land for cultivation. they sowed corn and wheat. slowly the whole area especially the great plains became the major producer of wheat. Henceforth America came to be known as "bread bowl" of the world.
