There are many great answers that already cover most of the points why Bangalore / Bengaluru became the largest IT hub in India. As the original Bengali, I could not resist answering this particular question. The emergence of Bengaluru from the pensioner paradise in India's IT capital has been extraordinary. I have lived in the city throughout my life so far and have seen the city growing very much in the span of 15 years.
1980
In the 1980s, Infosys started with the transfer of its headquarters from Pune to Bangalore, Wipro establishes the IT company here and establishes the arrival of Texas Instruments. All these events are well known. An incident that changed the face of Bangalore but many people are not aware that it is the beginning of computer science in the form of engineering science. Until the 1980s only IIT, NIT and some other engineering colleges introduced CS as a separate branch. In the private colleges, CS was not a branch.
The Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) was also the first private engineering college in Karnataka and perhaps to complete CS as a separate branch in engineering all over India. Although there were a lot of disputes about this decision, this step became a masterstroke. Until the 1980s, there were some number of engineering colleges and none of them offered CS as a separate branch.
The success of the electronic city was critical in the development of many IT parks in Bangalore. ITPL or International Tech Park was established as a result of joint venture between India and Singapore. There are a total of 1 lakh employees in the electronics city today and there are offices of Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HP and many other companies. It is well linked to various parts of the city.
Metropolitan culture of bengaluru
Bengaluru has always been a metropolitan city since the pre-independence era. Parts of Bengaluru were directly under the control of the British Empire and were part of the Madras Presidency, while the rest of the city was under the rule of Mysore Maharaja. Sectors like Basavangudi and Malleshwaram were under the kingdom of Mysore and the dominion of Kannadigas was. However, there was a large population of Tamil and Telugu speakers in areas such as Cantonment area, KR Puram etc.
