Mahmud of Ghazni had started his invasions in India during the period when the Rajput power had declined. The two main reasons that led to the conquest of India by Mahmud Ghazni was firstly, to accumulate the vast amount of wealth that existed in India, and secondly, to spread Islam.

i)He was anxious to conquer central Asia . for he wanted a well-equipped army.
ii)The later invasions of Mahmud were specifically directed to temple owns. He wanted to destroy the will power of the Hindus by destroying their temple
iii)The weak political condition of India encouraged him to attack India 17 times in 25 years.
