Louis XVI wasn't that bad of a king actually. He was just king at the wrong time… Even though he and Marie Antoinette spent a lot, it was not as close as Louis XIV.When the people heard about the successful revolution against the British, the lower classes started to realize that they could have more. Until then, this system was all they knew, they simply weren't aware that things could change. So they basically began to protest and request better living conditions, less tax.But they didn't actually want to overthrow the king at first, they wanted to install a parliament like in Britain. But then the king betrayed and they cut off his head, and a lot of people followed…This basically created a more modern economic system of free trade, between the allied countries in the Napoleonic wars.399 ViewsRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow did the early part of the French Revolution address the causes of the Revolution and the ideas of the Enlightenment? What were the economic causes of the French Revolution? What were the main causes and effects of the French Revolution? What are four causes of the French Revolution? What were the long term causes of The French Revolution? Hence he kept giving them moneyLouis liked spending on himself and buying fancy hats cause, you know, the French.Since the tax system only taxed the poor, and purchases skyrocketed, you see the treasury deplete and the rest is history.
