Prior to reclaimation: -the working class lived in thickly populated chawls which were located in the native part of the city. -Like tentements in London,chawls were cheap one room house which did not even have a seprate washroom. -While migrants were pouring in the city for working opportunities,people used to accommodate 6-7 people in 1 room, these chawls were in close proximity to filthy gutters etc,. -The rich parsi,muslims and industrialists lived in spacious bunglow (If the question carries more marks more descriptin could be given about the condition of chawls).
