- 'Provincial elections' were held in 'British India' in 1936-37. They were directed by the 'Government of India Act' 1935. Elections took place in eleven provinces and the results were declared in February 1937.
- The 'Indian National Congress' won in eight provinces and gained power. The All-India 'Muslim League' did not form government in anywhere.
- These provisional elections of 1937 proved that neither the 'Muslim League' represented Muslims nor the 'Congress'. Around 25 percent of the seats were reserved for Muslims by the Muslim League.
