In the story 'The Phantom Luncheon' the greed was for food. Smithly Dubbs were greedy, not mainly for money but for a lavish meal on others' expenses. It is clear from Lady Drakmanton's reaction when Sir James asked her to take them for a lunch. She replied she was a member in the same club as they were. They would not be present anytime other than lunch time. The greed for full six course meals were clear. They were always ready for a free luncj by anybody. A word of offer is enough and they would fly to a luxurious restaurant for a lavish food served to them. Lady Drakmanton was successful in deceiving them by sending her sister instead of her.
So the theme of greed is greed for food on others' expenses.
