HEY MATE HERE IS YOUR ANSWER ❤️❤️❤️
Divalent elements include calcium and sulfur and oxygen.
sulphur has it atomic number 16
electronic configuration 2 , 8 , 6
sulpher has 6 electrons in it's valence shell.
sulphur gain two electron to fill his octet.
and we know that any element gain electron then it became negative.
therefore,
S^-2 is a negative diatomic ion because it gain two electrons.
similarly oxygen is also negative diatomic ion.
hope it's helpful❤️❤️❤️❤️

your answer
negative diavalent compounds are the one that have -2 as there valency after gaining
taking an example of oxygen
configuration 2,8,6
takes two electron and forms 2,8,8 and valency becomes -2
divalent (two as valency)
