Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here....
Why does diamond sparkle?
The refractive index of diamond is very high (=2.5) and its critical angle is very less (only 24°). The faces of diamond are cut in such way that a light ray entering the diamond suffer repeated and multiple TIR(Total Internal Reflection), and finally comes out and reaches our eye. Hence, to us, diamond appears sparkling.
The phenomenon is called Total Internal Reflection, which happens because light ray is trying to come out from diamond to air with an angle of incidence greater than critical angle.
