Explanation:

Corrosion is a natural and slow process in which the metal gets oxidized into its oxide form or reduced to sulfide form.

The metal gradually reacts with the oxygen present in air like 'iron reacts with oxygen' to form iron oxide, red patches that look as if the metal has been corroded.

It is often known as rust in steel pipes or alloys that contain iron.

It is also known to occur in other metals like the lead pipe or containers made of tin. Lead reacts with air and moisture to form lead hydroxide coating that often gets dissolved in water and becomes poisonous.

Therefore galvanization is done to prevent the 'corrosion' of such active metals.
