The best example of static friction is a wooden bar lying at the slightly tilted table. If not the static friction, the bar would have slid off the table. If we tilt the table a little more to a position when a force of gravity becomes more than a force of friction, our bar begin to slide along the table's surface and can fall off the table. But at the first position it was static friction that keep the bar motionless.
