Answer:

The cell sap present in the root cell is of a higher concentration than the surrounding cell water so that it is hypertonic and the soil water is hypotonic.This allows endosmosis to occur and soil water enters the root cell.

On applying excess fertilizers,the soil water becomes hypertonic.This will make the surrounding root cell hypotonic.Thus exosmosis occurs and the root cell gets plasmolysed leading to death.
